A Fresh Start: A Family Moves to East Grand Rapids

When deciding to move from Lansing to a secluded cul-de-sac in East Grand Rapids, a blended family with a newborn and middle schoolers looked to us to update their new-to-them home.  The house needed some remodeling so they invited us to help make some big improvements, make everything more cohesive, and to transform the house into a place they would really love.

This mood board really sums up the fresh concept we presented.  As installations are nearing completion, we thought you might enjoy a close up of some of the details that helped to turned this house into a home.

This bohemian chic patterned carpet will wear well both in terms of style and durability for this family raising young children at home.  Colorfast, stain resistant, anti-static and antimicrobial - this is a functional and beautiful solution that we selected for the redesigned stairs as well as the family room and living room.

We recommended stained oak newels and handrails to tie in with the existing refinished wood floors.  The boxy newel posts with notching details paired with rectangular iron balusters are a nice blend of warm and cool, new and classic.

Zebrino stone-like porcelain tile beautifully frames this double-sided fireplace surround in the living room.

We added a little drama and contrast with this charcoal ledger stone for another fireplace in the family room.  Stacked stone is both orderly in its long clean top and bottom cut, but with a rough dimensional face cut that adds an organic and natural feel inside a home.

A pop of color in a different texture is accomplished by this chambray blue linen textured wallcovering for a small powder room.

Hexagonal luxury vinyl sheet flooring for the kid's bathroom that looks like stone but without the upkeep of stone or tile.  No grout.  No seams.  No water seepage.  Even close up, this flooring is lovely and neutral but not boring.

Furniture is rolling in and this house is turning out so nicely.  This wasn't an extensive project with major architectural layout revisions, but big material revisions have made a huge improvement that will last this family for many years to come.

Au revoir,

Jennifer et cie
